1.8GB of branches: A Revit Nightmare!
When Too Much Detail Slows Everything Down (And How We Solved It)
Look,
The other day, our Design Tech director asked me to check a Revit model containing a group of "simple" canopies.
The file in question was a Revit file of 1.8GB, produced by one of our consultants.
I dove into the model to understand what was going on.
The canopies in question try to imitate vernacular architecture, with organic shapes made of wood.

⚠️ The problem:
These consultants had modeled each of those large and thin branches covering the canopies, as solids - thousands of pipes, coming from a Rhino model.
These solids weren't really necessary.
They weren't providing any value, and they were making the model very difficult to operate.
