CompDesign Community

CDC

Yesterday I had an online catch-up with Rudy Riachy.

Very nice guy. He started CDC-ME.

A Community of CDs based in Dubai.

I wanted to know how he started CDC-ME, to replicate what it worked, and to start connecting some dots.

Rudy first realized there was nothing like this in Dubai (where he is based).

Then he started giving lectures and talks in Universities: connecting with teachers of students.

He started using LinkedIn to grow his network.

Once he got over 5k followers, he was ready to arrange a meetup in person.

He checked how many connections he had in Dubai.

Then he started the meetups.

CDC-ME. They host show and tell, talk about computational design, and have some food and drinks together...

They started around 8 months ago, and do a meetup in person monthly.

Now if I visit Dubai I can contact them and join one of these meetings.

Do we need a global community of Computational Designers?

It would be incredible if more people took inspiration from him and established local, in-person communities.

Is there something similar already going on?

How can we connect with other CDs when we are visiting different cities?

I will try to do this for Miami. Reach out to me if you are reading from there.

And remember.

The first rule of the CDC is "You do not talk about CDC".

PS: One of the key takeaways is to make this Company Agnostic.
