More maps
With Grasshopper
Hi hi.
Last week, I talked about getting map data with Grasshopper.
I suggested you take a look at ELK.
Thanks to Chris Landau and Mario Diaz, we have more alternatives.
…
There is HERON.
Good for SHP and TIFF files. And REST services.
Chris said that ELK is better for granular stuff for OSM (Open Street Maps).
ELK apparently gives you more metadata on import from OSM.
But there is a component to get OSM data with HERON as well.
If you're into this, try both plugins and compare.
Each has strengths, and you might even find a combo works best.
…
Another plugin to get OSM data with Grasshopper is URBANO.
Urbano is:
“ Urbano v1.2 lets you load OSM data into Rhino to create 3D site models—terrain, buildings, and streets—with one click. Great for everything from quick visuals to complex simulations.”

URBANO
And the last recommendation is not for Grasshopper.
It is for Blender: Free, Open Source, and Python-based.
Blender OSM is amazing for just getting models.
It has a paid version, super cheap, and worth it to support the developer!
Let me know if you have thoughts or more alternatives to spread the knowledge!
Have a great week
