The future

For architects

Hello, this is Isma.

Talking about Computational Design.

I’m sure you’ve seen people debating whether AI makes sense in the design process or not.

Let’s think about this for just a second:

If you’ve worked in an architectural practice, you’ve probably seen a director sketching out an idea for a building.

Then, junior architects take that idea and develop it further: with 3D models, renders, plans…

Now, imagine you have an agent that can do all of that.

An AI agent: or agents.

What’s the difference?

The boss sets the direction.

The junior (or the agent) produces.

Thoughts?

We’re not that far from this being reality.

Especially in the early stages: concept / pre-concept.

I’m in NY right now.

Actually writing this post from a taxi.

Yesterday, I met one of the partners of a studio here.

He told me that 20 years ago, he learned every piece of software he could: Rhino, Grasshopper, Revit… to stay ahead in his career.

Now, he thinks that 10–15 years from today:

people in his position will be able to generate and produce projects with 1–2 people instead of 20.

Happy days…

Have a great week!
