Wine

Some months ago one of our clients hired us to design a winery for them.

They are in Spain, a very nice location close to the sea in Cataluña.

As usual, we started with some ideas about the design, the layout configuration…

To get the client excited and to understand the possibilities.

Then, Carlos, the lead designer for this project, and I started talking.

He is a great designer and gets along very well with the clients.

And he is always keen to explore how to implement parametric design in his projects.

But, he doesn´t know much about what that means.

I asked him to show me the project.

Then I gave him some ideas about what we could do:

I thought about using generative design with a box-packing algorithm to fill the main space.

The client has a set number of wine jars in different sizes and types.

The goal is to find the best way to arrange them so they fit well.

They need to be separated from each other and leave enough circulation for the workers to move around them.

Since that info is fixed.

I will create a script that takes a 2d shape as a boundary.

And then populate that shape with the wine jars inside.

Then, the designers can test shapes very fast.

And check if the jars fit, or not.

While exploring many possibilities.

Automate the boring.

It will be cool to show you how that script works, right?

I am going to the beach now.

Have a great week!
